lots of posts

I just posted 6 entries trying to get caught up on all that we have been doing. Also, on my other blog, I sometimes post our more fun stuff we do, and label it as school, so here is a link to all our school stuff I have over there. http://mdd5.blogspot.com/search/label/school

The Ballot Box

This lapbook was about the book The Ballot Box. This talked about the time before women were able to vote. My daughter is anti-history, but really enjoyed this book, and when we were finished and I told her we just did history, she was surprised. She is so used to her brother spouting off facts about presidents and war, she didn't realize there were other things about history that are fun to learn.

One of the activities was to do a mock election on what people's favorite ice cream is. It said to ask 25 people. Well, that was kinda hard to do, so I posted a question on my facebook page, and all my friends comment...the kids had the best time with that! The loved it.

Hand, Hand, Fingers Thumb

This was one my of my favorite books as a child, my dad used to read it to me all the time. It was fun to do this lapbook with Rachel.

Parrot lapbook

Noah did this one on his own.

Camel Lapbook

Leah did this one on her own. We had really wanted to go ride the camel at the zoo when we were working on this, but they weren't doing it then, and we have never gotten to go back. I remember riding it when I was a girl, and it was so cool.

Platypus lapbook

This was a fun lapbook to do b/c Platypus are such interesting animals. I got a few cute books to go along with it from the library.

Ant Lapbook

We did this lapbook one day when it was so beautiful outside, we had school on the trampoline. I had pictures of that, but can't seem to find them now.

The Grouchy Ladybug lapbook

This one was done mostly by Rachel, but everyone joined in to do the bug thumbprints.

Titanic Lapbook

We started this last school year, but stopped b/c I couldn't find many things I wanted to put in the lapbook. This one wasn't a free one, or kit to purchase, it was just composed of things I found on the internet, watching the big screen movie (I know it isn't totally accurate, and has a couple of scenes we fast forward through, but it does give an overall feel of how it all really happened), we also watched a video about an underwater excursion to the Titanic on the ocean floor, and some books from the library.
Last year, Noah built a Titanic out of Coca Cola boxes and toilet paper rolls that is pictured on the front cover.

Created a newspaper article
This is a photo (at the bottom) of what they think was the iceberg that the Titanic hit, it was in the area where it went down, and it had red paint on the side of it.
I just googled Titanic printables, and ended up finding a lot of activities and info to add to our lapbook.

Noah drew up some blueprints

Painting on Sunday

I stole these painting boards at my mom's house last time I was down. My sister left these behind when she moved to Hawaii...so if she wants them back someday, I may have to buy her some, but for now, we have put them to use. The kids have been asking me since we brought them to paint on them, so today was the day. With Dad's crazy work schedule, we have our weekend on Thursday and Friday, so it is schoolwork on Saturday and Sunday. They had to argue a bit, but got over it.

We did a unit on Titanic today, so Noah had that on his brain
